Conquer the highest peak in North Africa, the Mt Toubkal, in a five-day trekking adventure in Atlas Mountains, visit the traditional Berber villages and try local dishes.
Enjoy the free evening in Marrakesh and leave it on the next morning for an active adventure with the group. Continue through the Moulay Brahim Gorge and the foothills of the western High Atlas Mountains. Pass via the village of Asni to Imi Oughlad and meet the mules and muleteers to begin the trekking adventure. Pass by the cornfields and woods of juniper and pine to the Tizi 'n Tacht Pass (2000 m), and enjoy the views back down to Imlil and the Ait Oussaden valley. Then descend to the Azzadene Valley and reach the village of Tizi Oussem to stay in a mountain gite for a night. On the next day walk over the Tizi 'n Tizikert Pass and enjoy magnificent views over the Mt Toubkal summit, the Tazaghart Pass and the peak of Taddat (3800 m). Descend to the village of Aremd and have an overnight stay in another village gite. There are some souvenir shops and a small café in the village, and the Muslim sanctuary in the mountains above it. On the next day have a longer hike to a small village of Sidi Chamarouch that has developed around the sacred place. The people from all over the region come here to pray for good health and well-being, perhaps even hoping to drive away the evil spirit – jinn. (Please, note that non-Muslims are not allowed to enter the shrine.)
Then continue way to the peak of Mt Toubkal – the highest in North Africa (4167 m) and be rewarded by spectacular views in all directions and the sense of achievement having reached the summit. Descend back to the camping site in Amred by the end of the day. On the sixth day return to the Imlil mountain village and have transfer back to Marrakesh. Enjoy another planned night in the city and take a chance to stay longer as there is much to see there. Visit to the Mosque Koutoubia and the gardens, the Sultan Palace or the tombs of Mellah and Saadian, and relax in hammam in the evening. Take your time to visit the Djemaa el Fna, the open-air market place around which the traditional life of Marrakech revolves. Its name literally means the "place of death" as it was the place where the Sultans used to display the heads of their enemies. Now, with the food-stalls, snake-charmers, water-sellers, travelling musicians and acrobats, the square is a place of entertainment for both Moroccans and guests. The modern shopping centers and boulevards of the French-built new town are also only in a short walk away.
NB! Take your own sleeping bag, sleeping sheet, and bath towel, and a light weight self-inflating mattress for a camping.
NB! An average duration of walking time, excluding stops, is 6 hours.
NB! This is the increased difficulty trip for people, who enjoy active leisure. Please, bring your passport and travel insurance documents to the group meeting.
NB! As the trekking mules will carry your larger bags, the luggage is limited to 12 kg per person. Please, consider to use soft duffle bags or frameless backpacks. You will carry only your own daypack when trekking because sometimes the mules take a slightly different track or go faster than the group.
