From Nairobi to Zanzibar

Arrive to Nairobi by the group meeting to discuss the journey and to get ready for transfer to Arusha, crossing the Masaya land. Arusha, also known as Tanzania's "safari capital", officially became a city in 2006 and is an excellent basis to explore the protected national parks and reserves. The next day is devoted to visit of Serengeti National Park to see its picturesque nature in the 4x4 safari excursion. Head to the central part of Serengeti NP for camping and experience the sheer vastness of this territory, and marvel at the multitude of animal and bird life while cruising through this acacia-spotted savannah, search for the Big Five - lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino. Continue the safari on the next day, including the visit to the Ngorongoro crater, which is about 8300 square kilometres big and 600 metres deep, and is the most impressive non-flooding volcanic crater with the lake in it. It will surprise you by the great diversity of animal species. Then head to Marangu to set up camp for the night. Marangu is a popular starting point for climbers of the Mt Kilimanjaro.

Then, passing the majestic Mt Kilimanjaro, go along a picturesque road to the biggest city of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam located in the coast of the Indian Ocean. The city started as a fishing village and in the 19th century become a port and a trading centre. Cross the channel by ferry to reach Zanzibar - the "spice island" with extremely interesting history and culture. It was the centre of the slave and spice trade in the 1800s and the feeling of the Arabean, the European and the Indian cultures is present. Take a possibility to visit the Stone Town and the fisherman village Nungvi, to go to excursion to the spice plantations, and to visit Arab residences, palaces, museums, historic sites on your choice. The coast is great for snorkelling or scuba diving or just relaxing at the beach.
