Borneo is the third biggest island in the world and the true paradise for lovers of eco-tourism and nature. There can be found over 1000 species of orchids and it is the home for many endemic animals, like, clouded leopards, orangutans and bats, for instance.
Kota Kinabalu is the centre of Sabahas state of Malaysia that has developed between the wild jungles and the South China Sea. Visit to the Monsopiad cultural village and explore the islands off-shore excellent for swimming or snorkelling. Head to the town of Kudat on the next day to visit nesting site for turtles, lounge on secluded white-sand beaches, take an option of fishing, surfing, jungle trekking or get involved in the local beach clean-up project. Enjoy some extra beach time in the next morning before driving to the Kinabalu Park in the afternoon. Settle down in a hut at base of the mountain (4095 m) and get ready for the hike in the next morning.
At first hike about 8-7 hours and try your willpower. The pace of hike will not be high and the panorama stunning, so enjoy the beauty of nature. There are about 15000 of species of blooming plants in Borneo, including the endemic and the biggest flower in the world rafflesia that weighs about 10 kg. Spend night in Laban Rata mountain hut in the height of 3272 m where the food, refreshments and blankets are provided. Then take another 2-3 hours up to the peak the next morning. Consider that the weather on the summit can deteriorate very quickly, it can be very cold and the visibility poor. The descent takes approximately 5-7 hours, stopping by in your mountain hut en route. After return in the base camp the certificate is available to prove you have completed the climb.
Enjoy another possibility to go to Laban Rata for sunrise the morning of the fifth day you, however, this time by van and return to the headquarters for lunch. Then head to the resort town of Poring to experience bathing in healing thermal springs that is excellent reward after tough activities. Enjoy the next free day and take your time to hike local trails, visit Lupa Masa jungle to watch wildlife, take a canopy walk, visit to famous Sabah tea plantations, waterfall or enjoy the hot springs and relax. Then head to Weston to take a kayaking tour down the river to view wild proboscis monkeys and other wildlife, and optional post-dinner boat ride to see fireflies.
Take a few short drives on the next morning. At first get to the jetty and take a boat to Labuan, then catch the flight to Miri. Visit to the market or San Ching Tian temple, stroll the park or have a rest at the beach. After that, on the next day, head by 4x4 and then take a private boat down river to reach Mulu. Enjoy the beauty of nature and life scenes of the local villages and make a lunch stop in Marudi. Take an evening and the next day to explore caves, enjoy wildlife night walks, view bats at dusk, have a boat rides and more. Gunung Mulu National Park is a wonderland of natural and geological marvels.
Fly to Kuching in the final part of the tour. After a short orientation walk take an optional cooking class, visit the Sarawak Museum, the Chinese History Museum, Fort Margherita or walk along the waterfront promenade. Enjoy the one night stay in the local tribe's longhouse outside Kuching and find out about their culture and try some food. Depart form the longhouse in the afternoon of the next day and head to Semenggoh Nature Reserve. Enjoy feeding of the semi-wild orangutans and stay longer to get a real feel for these animals. Then head back to Kuching for the final night in the city.
